Cristiano Ronaldo was back on the training pitch on Tuesday preparing for Portugal's World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland, hours after it was announced he had rejoined Manchester United. The 36-year-old sealed a €15 million ($17.7m) move to England from Italian side Juventus after a whirlwind few days of negotiations that saw him sign a two-year contract with an option for a further season. Ronaldo left the club first time round for Real Madrid in 2009 in a then world-record €94 million switch after a hugely successful spell with the Premier League club. He moved to Manchester from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon in 2003 and would go on to score 118 goals in 292 games, winning his first Ballon d'Or and Champions League title, as well as three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups. “This is absolutely 100 per cent the stuff that dreams are made of,” Ronaldo posted on Instagram. “Everyone who knows me, knows about my never ending love for Manchester United. The years I spent in this club were absolutely amazing and the path we've made together is written in gold letters in the history of this great and amazing institution. “I can't even start to explain my feelings right now … It's like a dream come true.” Before potentially making his second United debut against Newcastle at Old Trafford on September 11, Ronaldo will be away on international duty for Portugal with two World Cup qualifiers — against Ireland and Azerbaijan — plus a friendly in Qatar on the schedule.
