PREMIER LEAGUE TEAM OF THE WEEK: GK: David de Gea (Manchester United). The sort of match-winning performance he routinely delivered at his peak, De Gea was unbeatable against West Ham, producing several top-class saves to protect the win at Old Trafford. EPA

RB: Kieran Trippier (Newcastle United). Another superb display after setting up Newcastle’s second goal in the 4-0 win over Aston Villa with a perfectly weighted cross. Even if Reece James wasn’t injured or Trent Alexander-Arnold was in form, Trippier would have a big shout to be England’s first choice right-back at the World Cup. Getty

LB: Ryan Sessegnon (Tottenham Hotspur). Both of Bournemouth’s goals came down his side, so from a defensive viewpoint it doesn’t look great. But it was Sessegnon’s superb goal that sparked Tottenham’s fightback to win 3-2 at the Vitality Stadium. Getty

CB: Ben Mee (Brentford). Scored a stunning volley to give Brentford the lead against Wolves before being victim to a Diego Costa headbutt that saw the striker receive a red card late on. Getty

CB: Aymeric Laporte (Manchester City). It seems strange now how Laporte had fallen down the City pecking order but he is back to his commanding best and once again looks to be a first choice centre-back. Composed and assured against Leicester City. EPA

CM: Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City). Another week where he displayed why he’s regarded as the best player in the Premier League. Scored a stunning free-kick to temporarily move City top of the table and ran the show at the King Power Stadium. PA

CM: Martin Odegaard (Arsenal). Scored Arsenal’s fifth in the rout of Nottingham Forest and outclassed the opponents’ midfield all game. Developing into a top player. PA

LW: Crysencio Summerville (Leeds United). In fairness, didn’t do all that much for 89 minutes of the game at Liverpool, but none of that mattered once he popped up and scored the winner to give Leeds three vital points. PA
