MANCHESTER CITY RATINGS: GK: Stefan Ortega – 9. Pep Guardiola’s No 2 made some crucial saves throughout. A clean sheet and a player of the match performance. Reuters

Rico Lewis –7. The 17-year-old didn’t put a foot wrong all game and shone on the big occasion. Provided a great match up with fellow youngster Hall on the other side down the right side. Getty

Ruben Dias – 7. A solid shift at the back for Dias. Kept Chelsea’s front three ineffective all match. Reuters

Aymeric Laporte – 6. Outmuscled by Broja at times but other than that looked assured at the back. Reuters

Sergio Gomez – 6. Looked slightly vulnerable at times when Chelsea came running at him, including a questionable clearance which struck his side’s post. Looked exciting going forward and overlapping with Grealish. Reuters

Rodri – 7. Looked calm in the middle of the park, his physicality didn’t let the away side’s attacking threats get into the game from deep. AFP

Ilkay Gundogan – 8. Orchestrated play from deep very well and Chelsea couldn’t seem to put a stop to it. Getty

Riyad Mahrez – 8. Broke the deadlock with a sensational free kick which he won. City’s second also came from the Algerian’s attempt which was palmed away into the feet of Alvarez. Getty

Cole Palmer – 6. Other attacking players stole the show for this one but wasn’t a bad performance from the City youngster. Worked hard in the midfield. PA

Jack Grealish – 8. Kept drifting into a more central role and posed a threat for his opponents all night. Offered a lot creatively and was a key cog in City’s victory. PA

Julian Alvarez – 8. Caused problems for the visitors throughout with his pace up top. Good positioning to get on the rebound for his side’s second to get on the scoresheet. Reuters

SUBS: Kalvin Phillips (Gundogan 50’) – 7. Came on for some much-needed minutes after his recent injury. Qatar might come too soon for him though. Getty

Bernardo Silva (Rodri 50’) – 7. Settled into the game nicely with his side in ascendance, created some opportunities in the second half. AP

Nathan Ake (Laporte 81’) – N/A. Slotted in nicely to help his side get the clean sheet. AP

CHELSEA RATINGS: Edouard Mendy – 6. Couldn’t do anything for the Mahrez free-kick opener and got unlucky for the second goal after his save found the feet of Alverez.

Marc Cucurella – 6. Made some important blocks and challenges to keep Chelsea in the match, certainly the best of the bunch when it came to the away side’s defence. Reuters

Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 5. Didn’t create anything going forward down the right. Didn’t help his chances of being selected for Qatar. PA

Mateo Kovacic – 4. Not the usual Kovacic performance. Sloppy in both halves. Getty

Denis Zakaria – 5. Let the game pass him by in the midfield. Struggled to get himself settled into this fixture. AP

Lewis Hall – 7. Impressive performance from the youngster who was chucked into the deep end and didn’t seem intimidated at all. Couldn’t capitalise on several major chances to get on the scoresheet but a good outing, nonetheless. PA
