Son Heung-min and Giovani Lo Celso scored the goals that sent Tottenham Hotspur to the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Manchester City. After Son had given the home side a fifth-minute lead, City totally controlled possession. They had the ball in the goal when Aymeric Laporte fired a shot past Hugo Lloris later in the first half. The goal was ruled out, though, when the referee, Mike Dean, decided the ball had struck Gabriel Jesus’ arm after referring to the pitchside VAR monitor. Spurs clinched the win when Lo Celso scored with his first touch, after coming on as a second-half substitute for Tanguy Ndombele. The win put Tottenham two points clear at the top of the table, ahead of Leicester City’s game against Liverpool on Sunday. Player ratings for the match can be seen in the gallery above.
