Erling Haaland enjoyed a remarkable debut for Borussia Dortmund on Saturday after coming off the bench to score a hat-trick and inspire a comeback 5-3 win at Augsburg. Trailing 2-0 and then 3-1, Dortmund's first game back after the Bundesliga winter break looked set to be heading for defeat. That was until Haaland, who was signed from Red Bull Salzburg for a reported €20 million euros (Dh81.5m), scored his first goal with a low drive in the 59th, three minutes after coming on to cut the gap to 3-2. Augsburg had led through a brace from Florian Niederlechner and a goal from Marco Richter, with Julian Brandt pulling one back for Dortmund. Jadon Sancho levelled for the visitors and Haaland then tapped in Dortmund's fourth in the 70th to put them ahead. The 19-year-old striker then sealed the win to live up to heightened expectations and completed his memorable hat-trick in the 79th minute, his sixth treble of the campaign. It had been a vastly different game until Haaland's stunning entrance. Augsburg deserved to be in control, taking advantage of poor Dortmund defending with the opening goal from striker Niederlechner before Richter's stunning long-range strike 20 seconds into the second half. The shock of falling two goals down woke up the Dortmund attack as Germany winger Brandt fired home their first goal off the crossbar just four minutes into the second half. The game became an end-to-end affair and Niederlechner grabbed Augsburg's third by tapping in. But it was one-way traffic thereafter as Dortmund manager Lucien Favre brought on Haaland for defender Lukasz Piszczek. He wasted little time in making his presence felt to give Dortmund a victory which leaves them fourth in the table, level on points with defending champions Bayern Munich and Schalke. Elsewhere, South Korean Kwon Chang-Hoon and Nils Petersen scored Freiburg's goals in a 2-1 win at Mainz which moved their side sixth. Werder Bremen kept a clean sheet for the first time this season as an own goal by Florian Kastenmeier secured a 1-0 win at Fortuna Duesseldorf. Colombian striker Jhon Cordoba scored twice as Cologne pulled further away from the bottom three with a 3-1 win at home to Wolfsburg. US international Timothy Chandler scored the winner as mid-table Eintracht Frankfurt won 2-1 at Hoffenheim.
