Goalkeeper: Julian Speroni (Crystal Palace)

Set a new Crystal Palace record for a goalkeeper with his 389th appearance and marked it with several saves to earn a replay against Bolton Wanderers.

Right-back: David Meyler (Hull City)

New manager Marco Silva asked midfielder Meyler to slot in at the back and he helped Hull keep a clean sheet as they saw off Swansea City.

Centre-back: Miguel Britos (Watford)

Helped add solidity at the back as Watford ended a five-game run without a win while Burton were unable to register a shot on target.

Centre-back: Virgil van Dijk (Southampton)

Showed his considerable ability again with a superbly-taken opener for Claude Puel’s side in the draw with Championship side Norwich City.

Left-back: Ben Davies (Tottenham Hotspur)

The left wing-back turned up in the centre-forward’s position to score with a well-taken header and break the deadlock against Aston Villa.

Right midfield: Grant Leadbitter (Middlesbrough)

Turned a dull draw into a comfortable win over Sheffield Wednesday with a fine free kick, his second goal in three games.

Centre midfield: Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal)

The Welshman started the fightback at Preston North End with a belated first goal of the season and played a part in Olivier Giroud’s late winner.

Centre midfield: David Silva (Manchester City)

Provided a masterclass in City’s 5-0 thrashing of West Ham United, showing remarkable composure as he delayed his shot before scoring.

Left midfield: Pedro (Chelsea)

A surprise choice at wing-back, the Spaniard nonetheless attacked incisively as ever, scoring two goals in the rout of Peterborough United.

Striker: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)

His record-equalling 249th United goal was a fortunate finish off his knee, but Rooney played well in the 4-0 demolition of Reading.

Striker: Ahmed Musa (Leicester City)

The Nigerian came on and changed the game against Everton with a double that brought comparisons with Jamie Vardy.
