Manchester City have announced that the first phase of work to expand the Etihad Stadium is set to begin imminently.
City were granted planning permission in February to increase the size of their stadium from its current 47,670 capacity to 62,170. The development, which will feature extensions to the north and south stands, has been split into two parts. City have confirmed the appointment of international engineering company Laing O’Rourke as construction partners, and ground engineering work on the South Stand site will begin immediately.
The expanded South Stand will take capacity to 54,000 by the 2015/16 season, something that will be marked by the introduction of a new £299 (Dh1,831) season ticket.
The expansion is City's second major construction project in quick succession after the building of their new £200 million academy and training complex, which is set to open this summer.

Tax authority targets shisha levy evasion
The Federal Tax Authority will track shisha imports with electronic markers to protect customers and ensure levies have been paid.
Khalid Ali Al Bustani, director of the tax authority, on Sunday said the move is to "prevent tax evasion and support the authority’s tax collection efforts".
The scheme’s first phase, which came into effect on 1st January, 2019, covers all types of imported and domestically produced and distributed cigarettes. As of May 1, importing any type of cigarettes without the digital marks will be prohibited.
He said the latest phase will see imported and locally produced shisha tobacco tracked by the final quarter of this year.
"The FTA also maintains ongoing communication with concerned companies, to help them adapt their systems to meet our requirements and coordinate between all parties involved," he said.
As with cigarettes, shisha was hit with a 100 per cent tax in October 2017, though manufacturers and cafes absorbed some of the costs to prevent prices doubling.
