Liverpool haven't begun 2020/21 in the best of form, losing to Arsenal in the Community Shield on penalties. Mohamed Salah buried his spot kick but was otherwise quiet. Maybe the presence of his old friend Dejan Lovren will help to kick-start his campaign ... During their time together at Liverpool, the relationship between Salah and Lovren was what could be termed in popular culture as a "bromance". They were best pals and frequently pictured together off the pitch, as well as on it. But the pair were parted when Lovren joined Zenit St Petersburg during the summer. Lovren's still very much part of Salah's life, or certainly wants to be after he posted this doctored version of an image the Egyptian had earlier posted. How sweet. While Arsenal did win the FA Cup last season, silverware has been in short supply compared to the heady days of Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira. So maybe you can't blame Sead Kolasinac for celebrating like he'd won the World Cup, when in fact he and his teammates were lifting the Community Shield - the traditional season opener in England - which is basically a friendly match with a trophy for the winner. Some former professionals refuse to put their boots back on after retiring as they don't want to embarrass themselves and appear nothing like the player they used to be. Not Patrice Evra. The former Manchester United left-back turned out in West London for Middlesex league side Brentham ahead of an appearance at the forthcoming charity Soccer Aid 2020 match. And judging by that backheel, the ability is still very much there. New Tottenham Hotspur signing Matt Doherty has been open about his passion for Arsenal over the years. So when he left Wolves to join Arsenal's rivals this week, his new employers came up with a masterstroke of a transfer-announcement video. We'll probably see this elsewhere before the transfer window closes. It feels as though the whole football world has been turned upside down by the prospect of Lionel Messi playing for a club other than Barcelona. For the youngsters, it will be heart-wrenching to see their hero leave - should he actually go. For this young chap, it was a proper head-in-the-hands moment when Messi failed to show at the training ground this week. Same place, same keeper, but 30 years and hundreds of matches for the likes of Real Madrid and Spain apart. ______________ More best of the week: Cristiano Ronaldo 'models new Hull City kit', Bayern's Alphonso Davies asks Justin Trudeau for trip home Neymar and Ander Herrera combine for possibly the greatest training ground goal ever
