Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, met with the leaders of Al Jazira following the club's Arabian Gulf League title triumph. The Abu Dhabi club previously won the championship in 2010/11 and 2016/17. Central to Jazira's success has been the club's thriving youth academy, with 17 academy graduates featured in the title winning squad, including star striker Ali Mabkhout who was the league's top scorer with 25 goals. Mabkhout has carried his fine form over to the national team having scored twice for the UAE in the <a href="https://www.thenationalnews.com/sport/football/ali-mabkhout-and-fabio-de-lima-both-at-the-double-as-uae-thrash-malaysia-in-world-cup-qualifier-1.1234928">4-0 win over Malaysia</a> in Thursday's 2022 World Cup qualifying match.
