Di Maria has been in sparkling form for his national team at the Copa America as Argentina take their place in the final against Chile on Saturday night.
His displays this summer have been in stark contrast to his debut season for United when, after a blistering start, Di Maria struggled for form.
However, former United striker Forlan has urged his old club to persevere with Di Maria.
