Giuly is the Lyon tamer

Paris St Germain condemned Ligue 1 champions Lyon to their second defeat of the season with a 1-0 victory at the Parc des Princes. PSG winger Ludovic Giuly nodded in a cross from full-back Ceara in the 25th minute for the winner. Lyon defender Anthony Reveillere was replaced in the 12th after picking up a knee injury while Lyon playmaker Juninho was red-carded in the 76th for a foul on left-back Sylvain Armand.

"It was a bad evening," Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun said. "We lost the match, we got a red card, and we have again some injured players. "After PSG opened the scoring, we had some trouble finding gaps. We tried to split their defence in the second half, but down to 10 men it was difficult." In Germany, the Cologne coach Christoph Daum blasted what he felt were Hoffenheim's underhand tactics after the Bundesliga leaders inflicted a 3-1 defeat on his side.

Daum was incensed by the red card shown to captain Kevin McKenna and accused Hoffenheim's players and coaching staff for trying to influence the referee. "Hoffenheim can no longer justify their squeaky-clean image," he said. "They make themselves out to be kind and friendly, but what I saw on their bench today is the most unfair thing I have ever seen in a stadium. "Many of them were demanding a red card and that does not belong [in football]."

Hoffenheim coach Ralf Rangnick, whose side opened up a three-point lead at the top of the table, replied: "None of us demanded a red card," he said. "We are not having that at all." * Agencies
