Godolphin missed out on the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe for the second successive year but the Dubai racing operation bagged two Group 1 prizes from the six that were up for grabs at Longchamp on Sunday.
Cloth Of Stars, the runner up in the Arc last year, was beaten to third place by Enable and Sea Of Class. However, Royal Marine and Wild Illusion won for a Godolphin double. Royal Marine swept away his rivals in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere and Wild Illusion won the Prix de l’Opera Longines.
“He’s a big, strong horse who works well at home,” trainer Saeed bin Suroor said of Royal Marine. “He showed some class there and travelled well the whole way.
"We’ll take him to Dubai now and he could start off there next season. He could be anything.”
Appleby added of Wild Illusion: “All credit to the filly, as you’ve seen there she’s tough. She’s danced every dance, she was fourth in Guineas, second in the Oaks and Ribblesdale. She came out and won the Nassau and she’s backed it up today. We were confident we had the best filly in the race.”
“She looked fantastic and it was a deserved win. This was always our target after the Nassau and hopefully going on to the future, it’ll be the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf.”
Electoral College Victory
Trump has so far secured 295 Electoral College votes, according to the Associated Press, exceeding the 270 needed to win. Only Nevada and Arizona remain to be called, and both swing states are leaning Republican. Trump swept all five remaining swing states, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, sealing his path to victory and giving him a strong mandate.
Popular Vote Tally
The count is ongoing, but Trump currently leads with nearly 51 per cent of the popular vote to Harris’s 47.6 per cent. Trump has over 72.2 million votes, while Harris trails with approximately 67.4 million.

Sinopharm vaccine explained
The Sinopharm vaccine was created using techniques that have been around for decades.
“This is an inactivated vaccine. Simply what it means is that the virus is taken, cultured and inactivated," said Dr Nawal Al Kaabi, chair of the UAE's National Covid-19 Clinical Management Committee.
"What is left is a skeleton of the virus so it looks like a virus, but it is not live."
This is then injected into the body.
"The body will recognise it and form antibodies but because it is inactive, we will need more than one dose. The body will not develop immunity with one dose," she said.
"You have to be exposed more than one time to what we call the antigen."
The vaccine should offer protection for at least months, but no one knows how long beyond that.
Dr Al Kaabi said early vaccine volunteers in China were given shots last spring and still have antibodies today.
“Since it is inactivated, it will not last forever," she said.
