Jordan is spoilt for choice

ABU DHABI // Chris Jordan's brief outing in the middle reminded him of the days when he would knock the ball around in the Caribbean as a child. The all-rounder was yesterday promoted to No 5 with a little more than five overs left of the Surrey innings. He made full use of it by stroking 28 not out off 19 balls, laced with two fours and a six over long off, as his side scored 256 for five against Sussex in the play-off for fifth place in the Emirates ProArch game at the Zayed Stadium. "It's nice to get some sunshine. It reminds me of the Caribbean," Jordan said.

The warmth was a brief respite from the colder conditions in England, where he resides at the moment even though he hails from West Indies. Jordan, still only 20, is eligible to play for England - and West Indies - if he can graduate to the international arena after a three-year cricket scholarship from the Dulwich College helped him to a budding career with Surrey. The London county signed him in 2007 and one and a half years later, the youngster is hoping he would get noticed. "I have enjoyed my stay [in England] and am looking forward to developing my career with Surrey," he said.

Jordan had a decent last season, taking 10 wickets in five games and scoring a few 30s and 40s. "I have touched 90kmph before and bowl around that speed," he said. Asked who he owes his allegiance to, he said: "I am not thinking of internationals. If I am good enough, I will get noticed and then I'll decide a course of action at that time. "Most of the boys who play for the West Indies play county cricket and, if I am to get noticed, it would be in England."
