Junior Cup adds ‘huge buzz’ to Ramadan Challenge Karting Sprint Series at Dubai Kartdrome

DUBAI // Organisers are expecting some really close racing at this year’s Ramadan Challenge Karting Sprint Series, which gets underway Sunday with the first of the four rounds at the Dubai Kartdrome in MotorCity.

A number of changes have been introduced to the racing format this season, including the launch of a new category: the Junior Cup, which is open to kart racers aged between 7-14. Drivers aged 15 and above will compete in the Senior Cup, while there is a separate sub-category, called Masters, for those aged 35 and above.

“There has been a huge buzz around the karting community for the 2016 Ramadan Challenge, especially with the addition of the Junior Cup to the bill,” said David Bright, the assistant manager at Dubai Kartdrome. “With new formats for both Juniors and Seniors, racing will be very close.”

The four rounds of the series are scheduled for June 13, June 19, June 26 and July 6, with the Junior Cup starting at 5pm in the Indoor Circuit of the Dubai Kartdrome. The Seniors and Masters races will get underway at 8pm on the Outdoor Circuit.

At the end of the four rounds, the champion in each category of the series, which attracts some of the best leisure kart racers in the region, will be awarded a fully-funded race weekend of Rotax or Iame, courtesy of CRG Middle East for the Junior Cup champion and Energy Karts Dubai for the Senior Cup champion.

“CRG Middle East is very happy to be supporting the 2016 Ramadan Challenge,” said Robert Cregan, the academy director at Abu Dhabi Racing. “It’s a great opportunity to bring new competitors into our sport and to help one lucky winner experience a race weekend with a world renowned brand like CRG.

“We will be watching the results very closely and look forward to giving a huge opportunity like this to somebody who is passionate and driven about karting.”
