ROME // Antonio Conte, the Juventus coach, has had his 10-month ban for failing to report match-fixing at a previous club upheld by Italian football chiefs.
The Serie A coach had been found guilty of failing to inform authorities over allegations of corruption involving two matches at his former club Siena two seasons ago.
His assistant Angelo Alessio has had his suspension reduced to six months on appeal.
The appeals hearing acquitted Conte of wrongdoing relating to a fixture against Novara in May 2011, but upheld the original 10-month sentence in connection with the other match against Albinoleffe.
Juventus said they would stick by Conte. Massimo Carrera will take temporary charge of the team, having overseen the side's pre-season fixtures.
With just days to go before the start of the new Italian football season Conte - who guided Juventus to the title last season - can appeal the ban once again, with a new hearing expected to be heard in September.
However, Juventus players Leonardo Bonucci and Simone Pepe have been cleared of wrongdoing by the Italian Football Federation panel investigating the illegal betting scandal which has rocked the country.
The FIGC's prosecutor had wanted a three-and-a-half year ban for Italy's Bonucci, who was playing for Bari at the time, and one-year ban for Pepe, who was with Udinese.
