Everton's players may be a little road weary following their Thursday night victory in Belarus but the manager, David Moyes, says his players will be at their hard-working best when they take on Stoke at home today. The Toffees came from behind to beat BATE Borisov 2-1 in the Europa League with an under-strength side and Moyes is taking that gritty performance to mean Everton are still riding the crest of the wave.
Moyes's team do have a good record against Stoke, having gone on an unblemished nine-match winning streak. It looks as if Joseph Yobo will join Victor Anichebe, Phil Jagielka, Mikel Arteta, Steven Pienaar and Philip Nevill on the injury list, but the manager is in a bullish mood, perhaps helped by the return of defenders John Heitinga and Lucas Neill and striker Louis Saha, who were ineligible against Borisov.
"I am always looking for high standards. I thought we could have played even better against Borisov and I am still looking for improvement," said Moyes. "We showed tremendous courage to win the game. The players know it is what I expect of them when they come here and I think they thrive on the responsibility of it." Moyes admitted his players will not have had the ideal preparation for as he fielded his strongest possible team for the Belarus match.
"We would have liked more preparation time because when you play a very competitive side like Stoke you have to be ready, but I tell the players that we have to go and do it again." Stoke are looking for goals having managed only five so far this season. @Email:stregoning@thenational.ae
Another way to earn air miles
In addition to the Emirates and Etihad programmes, there is the Air Miles Middle East card, which offers members the ability to choose any airline, has no black-out dates and no restrictions on seat availability. Air Miles is linked up to HSBC credit cards and can also be earned through retail partners such as Spinneys, Sharaf DG and The Toy Store.
An Emirates Dubai-London round-trip ticket costs 180,000 miles on the Air Miles website. But customers earn these ‘miles’ at a much faster rate than airline miles. Adidas offers two air miles per Dh1 spent. Air Miles has partnerships with websites as well, so booking.com and agoda.com offer three miles per Dh1 spent.
“If you use your HSBC credit card when shopping at our partners, you are able to earn Air Miles twice which will mean you can get that flight reward faster and for less spend,” says Paul Lacey, the managing director for Europe, Middle East and India for Aimia, which owns and operates Air Miles Middle East.

Five famous companies founded by teens
There are numerous success stories of teen businesses that were created in college dorm rooms and other modest circumstances. Below are some of the most recognisable names in the industry:
- Facebook: Mark Zuckerberg and his friends started Facebook when he was a 19-year-old Harvard undergraduate.
- Dell: When Michael Dell was an undergraduate student at Texas University in 1984, he started upgrading computers for profit. He starting working full-time on his business when he was 19. Eventually, his company became the Dell Computer Corporation and then Dell Inc.
- Subway: Fred DeLuca opened the first Subway restaurant when he was 17. In 1965, Mr DeLuca needed extra money for college, so he decided to open his own business. Peter Buck, a family friend, lent him $1,000 and together, they opened Pete’s Super Submarines. A few years later, the company was rebranded and called Subway.
- Mashable: In 2005, Pete Cashmore created Mashable in Scotland when he was a teenager. The site was then a technology blog. Over the next few decades, Mr Cashmore has turned Mashable into a global media company.
- Oculus VR: Palmer Luckey founded Oculus VR in June 2012, when he was 19. In August that year, Oculus launched its Kickstarter campaign and raised more than $1 million in three days. Facebook bought Oculus for $2 billion two years later.
