The NFL has unanimously approved a proposal for Stan Kroenke to take over as majority owner of the St Louis Rams as long as he turns over control of his NBA and NHL teams to his son. Kroenke owns 40 per cent of the Rams and has exercised an option to buy the remaining 60 per cent of the team from the Rosenbloom family for a reported $750 million (Dh2.7 billion). Kroenke already owns two Denver-based teams, the NBA's Nuggets and NHL's Colorado Avalanche.
Meanwhile, the NFL fined Chad Ochocinco, the Cincinnati Bengals receiver, US$25,000 for the timing of his tweets. The league said that Ochocinco's messages appeared on his Twitter page during a prohibited time at the Bengals-Eagles pre-season game on Friday night. One of his tweets read, in part,"Man Im sick of getting hit like that. ... Tylenolplease".

Also on December 7 to 9, the third edition of the Gulf Car Festival (www.gulfcarfestival.com) will take over Dubai Festival City Mall, a new venue for the event. Last year's festival brought together about 900 cars worth more than Dh300 million from across the Emirates and wider Gulf region – and that first figure is set to swell by several hundred this time around, with between 1,000 and 1,200 cars expected. The first day is themed around American muscle; the second centres on supercars, exotics, European cars and classics; and the final day will major in JDM (Japanese domestic market) cars, tuned vehicles and trucks. Individuals and car clubs can register their vehicles, although the festival isn’t all static displays, with stunt drifting, a rev battle, car pulls and a burnout competition.
