When Saleh Elsharabaty clinched a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the taekwondo 80kg, it was a moment of immense pride for his family back home in Jordan.
Elsharabaty guaranteed himself either gold or silver when he booked his place in the final after his semi-final win over Uzbekistan's Nikita Rafalovich. His efforts to win the title came up just short against Russian Olympic Committee's Maksim Khramtcov, but that was never going to dampen the celebrations of his family and friends, who cheered him on from Amman.
Following Elsharabaty's historic silver - it was Jordan's second ever Olympic medal following Ahmad Abughaush's 68kg taekwondo gold at the 2016 Rio Games - the 22-year-old's family could be seen shouting in delight and embracing each other.
"I'm ecstatic, I'm so proud of him," his mother Rula Al Samman said. "He did his best and worked hard. Thank God, his hard work paid off."
