LONDON // Michael Owen has been overlooked again by the England coach Fabio Capello for the World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Belarus.
The 28-year-old Newcastle United striker has scored 40 goals in 89 appearances for England but has still not convinced the Italian taskmaster Capello about his fitness this season, despite playing in his club's last six games. His last cap came against France in March.
The Portsmouth forward Peter Crouch and Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips return to the squad for the Group Six fixtures after good form for their respective clubs.
Crouch is one of four strikers in the squad, the others being his Portsmouth teammate Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney of Manchester United and Wigan's Emile Heskey.
The Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole is ruled out with a foot injury after scoring for his club yesterday while the Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson is also missing because of a calf strain.
England, who top the group after away wins against Andorra and Croatia, face Kazakhstan at Wembley on Saturday before facing Belarus in Minsk the following Wednesday.

His life in brief: Born in a village near Galilee, he lived in exile for most of his life and started writing poetry after high school. He was arrested several times by Israel for what were deemed to be inciteful poems. Most of his work focused on the love and yearning for his homeland, and he was regarded the Palestinian poet of resistance. Over the course of his life, he published more than 30 poetry collections and books of prose, with his work translated into more than 20 languages. Many of his poems were set to music by Arab composers, most significantly Marcel Khalife. Darwish died on August 9, 2008 after undergoing heart surgery in the United States. He was later buried in Ramallah where a shrine was erected in his honour.
