"CA has in principle agreed to three [ODIs] plus three [T20s] but it would only confirm that once they have had detailed discussions with their players," Subhan Ahmed, the PCB's chief operating officer, told The National. That may not be a straightforward proposition. Last week, Paul Marsh, the head of the Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA), had raised "serious concerns" about playing 50-over games in the August heat of the UAE. The ACA had, in fact, welcomed the idea of a T20-only series after the International Cricket Council (ICC) gave approval, on Monday. The PCB's insistence on having ODIs as part of the series is driven by commercial reasons. The 50-over format allows more advertising breaks and thus greater revenue to be raised by the broadcaster. A spokesman for CA said only that discussions had taken place between the two boards in Kuala Lumpur and that details were not finalised. The spokesman told ESPNcricinfo that the CA "have agreed in principle to a proposal that the PCB has put to us, subject to us seeing the final detail". He added: "We're expecting the final detail within the next 24 hours. Once we sign off on the final detail we're expecting a formal announcement from the PCB within the next two or three days." The PCB was in the UAE last week to finalise arrangements with Emirates Cricket Board officials and one of the points they have been discussing is shifting the start time of ODIs from 3.30pm to 5.30pm to avoid the worst of the daytime heat.
