Serena Williams leads star-studded line-up for 2016 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships

Led by Serena Williams, the 2016 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships will welcome five of the world’s top 10 players.

World No 1 and 21-time grand slam champion Williams will be joined by world No 3 and Wimbledon finalist Garbine Muguruza, and world No 4 and 2012 Dubai winner Agnieszka Radwanska.

Angelique Kerber, the world No 7, Lucie Safarova (No 9) and former world No 1s Ana Ivanovic and Carloine Wozniacki will also be competing in the event, taking place February 15-27.

“We are delighted to be welcoming the world’s best players back to Dubai,” Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman of Dubai Duty Free, said. “This year is shaping up to be another hotly contested tournament and we are looking forward to another great fortnight of superb tennis action.”

Held at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium, the action will commence with the WTA event, followed by the ATP tournament, with the men’s line-up set to be announced in the coming days, organisers have said.

While there is no official line-up for the ATP event yet, seven-time champion Roger Federer and world No 1 Novak Djokovic are expected to be in attendance.

“This tournament is eagerly awaited by players and fans alike and the line-up this year is fantastic,” tournament director, Salah Tahlak said. “We look forward to welcoming spectators for this year’s event and enjoying another thrilling tournament.”

Tickets for the event will go on sale on January 18 from the Box Office at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium, which is open from 9am to 9pm daily and online.
