Jose Reyes, the New York Mets' shortstop, has been pulled out of spring training after blood work revealed a possible thyroid problem.
Reyes was told the results of Thursday's team physical showed he may have an over active thyroid and that he needs to rest.
The next round of tests will be conducted in New York and Reyes will be sidelined until the results are known, which could be as late as Wednesday.
The news is a setback to the Mets' preparations for the new Major League Baseball season, which starts next month.
"I don't know what's going on, this is the first time I've ever had something like this," Reyes said on Friday. "I have to be worried. I can't do anything."
The two-times All-Star came to the ballpark in Port St Lucie, Florida, on Friday expecting to make his spring debut against the Florida Marlins, but instead was forced to watch from the sidelines as the Mets won 7-3.
