Mahdi Ali's final preparations for their opening Gulf Cup game got under way with the best possible start after his side won 2-0 against Yemen last night. Second-half goals from Omar Abdulrahman and Amer Abdulrahman secured the victory at Doha's Khalifa Stadium as Ali looks to fine-tune his side. But it took an hour for the UAE to get on the scoresheets after a tight first half, with Baniyas midfielder Amer Abdulrahman eventually scoring from the spot. In-form Al Ain winger Omar Abdumrahman made it two with nine minutes remaining, with Mahdi Ali bringing on six substitutes as the game progressed to freshen up his side. Attention now turns to the second warm-up game, against Tajikistan, in Doha on Saturday before next week's opening match against Qatar. Follow us
