Manchester United have accepted Wayne Rooney's charge from the English Football Association for swearing at a television camera but are appealing against his two-match ban, the Football Association said in a statement.
Rooney was charged with using abusive language while celebrating a goal in Saturday's 4-2 win at West Ham United.
In a statement on their website the FA said that Rooney has admitted the charge for the use of offensive, insulting and/or abusive language.

"However, Rooney has submitted a claim that the automatic penalty of two games is clearly excessive," the statement said.
A commission will hear the submission this afternoon.
If Rooney's claim fails he runs the risk of having his suspension extended.
It currently includes Saturday's Premier League encounter with Fulham and the following week's FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City at Wembley.
Earlier, John Bramhall, the deputy chief executive of England's Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) spoke out in support of Rooney. Bramhall believes the language the fans used at West Ham would have "eclipsed" anything Rooney said.
He said: "As with games at a very high level he has a camera crew within inches of him, looking for some sort of reaction.
"They caught something that was inappropriate. I am not sure the number of complaints Sky received, it would be interesting to see those figures.
"But in a football environment the spectators would be using language for the vast majority of the game that would eclipse it."
