Absconding woman caught trying to enter UAE illegally

An Omani man and an Indonesian woman have been remanded in custody for a week for violating residency laws.

An Abu Dhabi Court heard on Tuesday that custom officers at Hili border exit arrested the suspects as the man was attempting to bring the woman into the country, claiming she was his wife, using a passport from a Gulf country under a different name.

Investigation revealed that the woman had absconded from her sponsor in Oman, where she had stayed for 10 days before attempting to enter UAE with the help of the man.

The woman confessed and said that she used to live in the UAE before she was deported for suffering from an infectious disease. She is now permanently banned from entering the UAE.

She told the court she was trying to get to Al Ain to find work.

The man confessed that he had received Dh700 from a Bangladeshi associate to bring the woman into the country.
