ABU DHABI // A supervisor who was on duty when a three-year-old girl died after being left in the back of a school bus, asked for an adjournment to appoint a defence attorney in court on Wednesday.
Five people have been accused of negligence that caused the death of the girl after she was locked alone inside her school bus in October.
During the second hearing of the case, the bus supervisor said she wanted to appoint a defence lawyer. The owner of the bus company also arrived with a new lawyer, who asked for an adjournment to prepare the case.
Public prosecution was due to present its case in court on Wednesday, but decided to adjourn it until all lawyers are present and ready.
The case was adjourned until December 14.
After the hearing the girl’s father thanked Dr Amal al Qubaisi, Abu Dhabi Education Council’s general manager.
“She is visiting us frequently and calls to ask about my wife and my other daughter,” he said.
He said that he has not yet reached a settlement with the school and will be referring the matter to the Civil Court after it has passed through the penal courts.
