Doctors participating in the second conference on child health held in Abu Dhabi called for the need to provide doctors and health practitioners with training courses to help them identify injuries resulting from child abuse.
Speakers at the three-day conference organised by the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha) in the capital said that injuries resulting from abuse vary between minor injuries, bone fractures and burns. They said doctors must be able to easily distinguish injuries resulting from accidents caused by violence.
Speakers from the UAE, the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan will discuss issues related to children's health during the event, which ends on Monday.
"Risks resulting from child abuse can be avoided by families, doctors and health professionals through proper and early detection of injuries caused by abuse, some of which can be serious and lead to death," according to an expert.
