Ajman police has launched its campaign to reign in dangerous off-road driving in the emirate that puts both drivers and campers at risk of injury.
The second year of the 'Desert without Blood' campaign targets stunt driving by motorcycles and dune buggies.
Lt Col Saif Abdullah Al Falasi, deputy director of Ajman police's traffic department said that the campaign aims to protect young people from the risks of irresponsible driving of bikes and other off-road vehicles in the desert.
"We hope to reduce the number of accidents resulting from stunt driving in the desert by targeting and educating families in camping sites and emphasising on the importance of driving away from families and children, wearing safety gear, and conducting periodic testing for the vehicles to avoid radiator explosions," he said.
The campaign was first launched by the Federal Traffic Council last year and during its launch Maj General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, chairman of FTC and assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police Operations, said that motorcycles have caused 107 accidents last year, resulting in 13 deaths and injuries in 113 people.
