It has been an exciting few days for weather watchers across the UAE. While Dubai residents and visitors are used to the Burj Khalifa displaying visual entertainment, they were in for a different type of light show on Saturday. The world's tallest tower became a lightning rod as thunderstorms hit the city. And some, including Dubai's Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, shared social media posts showing nature at its most amazing. He tweeted this dramatic video of the Burj being struck by lightning amid dark skies over Dubai. Residents across Dubai were quick to grab their recording equipment to try and capture a slice of the action. Paul Espie took the video at the top of the page from his apartment in Downtown Dubai. Tarek Ghobar also posted a video of the lightning over the Downtown area with Burj Khalifa once again being struck. Other parts of the country were hit by downpours on Saturday, with flooding and landslides in the northern emirates. Roads and wadis were affected by the deluge of rain and residents were asked to stay away from flooded areas. On Sunday morning, apart from a few showers over Dubai, skies were generally a lot clearer. Forecasters said the chance of rain will reduce as the day goes on. The UAE has endured a prolonged spell of unsettled weather as the seasons transition from winter to summer. As well as the rain and thunder, parts of the country have experienced sandstorms and hailstones, while the temperature has swung between the low 20s and high 30s (Celsius).
