American admits importing 270 Tramadol capsules into UAE



DUBAI // An American sales representative admitted importing 270 Tramadol capsules into the country, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.

G N, 30, told the judge he imported the capsules for medical reasons, although he did not specify the nature of his medical condition.

Prosecutors charged him with importing 27 strips of Tramazen 50, a painkiller that contains Tramadol, for personal use.

Emirati S A, 26, a customs inspector, testified he was on duty at the Al Romoul post office when he was made aware of a suspicious package that had been sent from India.

S A said: “It was my colleague J A who had suspicions about the the package when it passed through the X-ray. When we checked it we found it contained capsules.

“The Ministry of Health was contacted and the package was referred to them. They found the capsules contained Tramadol. The recipient was contacted then and referred to police.”

The next hearing will be on November 2.
