Update: Du and beIN Sports reach deal to show World Cup games
Broadcaster beIN Sports says its deal with the UAE telecoms provider du will not be renewed.
The decision, released in a statement on Sunday, is a blow to football fans just days ahead of the Fifa World Cup in Russia.
A contract between beIN Media Group and Du expired on May 31.
On Sunday, beIN said negotiations to renew a deal failed resulting in a termination of services.
A statement reads: “The beIN group has further acted in good faith by granting the network an extension of 24 hours to conclude the renewal process and sustain the service to no avail."
It says customers can still access live streaming from the internet service beIN Connect.
Football fans in the UAE will have to watch the World Cup from June 14 from viewing packages provided by Etisalat, costing from Dh550.
Etisalat said all of its beIN services are working as normal.
