Fishermen and drivers in the Northern and Eastern regions of the country should call for information on the weather before making any plans, the National Center of Meteorology and Seismology said on Monday.
“The centre is advising the people - the fishermen - to call before they go to sea," said a spokesperson for the centre. He said motorists should take precautions on the road in case of lightning, and because visibility may be reduced at times.
The unstable weather, which is expected to begin on Tuesday, is being blamed on the extension of Red Sea clouds moving towards the country, coupled with relatively cold upper air mass in the Eastern regions, he said.
The clouds will start to increase over the Western region before gradually extending towards the Northern and Eastern sides of the country.
The clouds are also associated with rain, he said.
A rainstorm was reported in Fujairah late Monday night.
While the sea is expected to remain moderate, the clouds will make it rough at times.
The temperature may also change in line with the weather, the spokesperson said.
“During the day time [the temperature] will be temperate and tends to be cold over some interior regions and the mountains. In case of convective clouds, the down draft will cause strong surface winds raising the dust and [leading to] deterioration of visibility.”
The winter season is expected to begin on December 21, according to the centre.??zalhassani@thenational.ae
