Chilly temperatures in UAE to continue for at least another week

Chilly mornings and evenings, and cool daytime temperatures are set to continue until mid-February, according to weather forecasters.

The National Centre of Meteorology said the mercury will start rising by about 4 to 6°C - making the highest daytime temperature about 29°C, up from about 24°C or cooler in recent days.

Lows of 9°C in the mornings and evenings have been reported in the cities, and the weather centre said it has dropped to as low as 4°C in the desert and mountainous areas.

“Clear skies can help in increasing the temperatures by one to two degrees and this might occur in the upcoming days, but temperatures are around the normal with high of 24°C and may drop to 4°C, over desert and mountainous areas,” a forecaster said.

Global forecaster AccuWeather also recorded low temperatures, but rising to 29°C from February 13 to 19.

Desert campers said that low temperatures made them reschedule their trips.

“It’s very cold especially at night and starting a fire during the camping trip is not even helping anymore, so we decided to postponed our trips until the weather becomes warmer,” said camper Saeed Al Naqbi, a 26-year-old Emirati from Fujairah.

“I can’t remember the last time I felt that cold, it’s like the cold gets into your bones.”

Another resident, from Dubai, said she has had to wrap up for her morning runs at 6am and to take her daughter to school.

“It becomes very cold in the morning especially before sunrise, but that makes me run faster to keep my body warm,” said Sandy Davies, a 44-year-old British mother of two.

“We are not used to such law temperatures here - but we enjoy it."
