DUBAI // A 43-year-old investor who was having a wild night of drinking at Nelson's Bar in the Media Rotana and sexually assaulted a woman was sentenced to six months in prison.
The defendant SS, a Briton, was charged with assaulting his compatriot CD, 23, while both were at the hotel bar in Tecom, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
The victim and two work colleagues went to the bar on February 24. She and her friends, F and R, were standing around a table and talking when she felt a hand touching and grabbing her buttocks.
She said her friends were next to her but she was touched by someone behind her.
CD said she turned to ask the defendant what he was doing, and he failed to answer.
"He was very drunk and I couldn't understand what he was saying," she said.
She added that SS left the bar, then returned a few minutes later and started yelling at her and her friends.
"I couldn't hear or understand anything he said because of the loud music," CD said.
He will be deported following the completion of his jail term.
