Brothers have death sentences quashed

AJMAN // A judge yesterday ordered the release of three brothers who were sentenced to death for killing their married sister's boyfriend 10 years ago after the victim's family waived their blood rights.

The sister, identified in records only as H, filed for her brothers' release at Ajman court and they are expected to be released in a few days, prosecution sources said.

H was married to a 70-year-old man, but she was having an affair with the victim, who used to visit her at her flat.

The brothers, then in their 20s and bidoon (stateless), found out about their sister's relationship and told her to call her Pakistani lover and invite him to her flat. Neither their names nor the victim's name were available in court yesterday.

When the boyfriend came to the flat the three men tied him up inside a bedroom and beat him for hours. They left him at about noon that day, and returned in the afternoon to beat him again. They left him again, bleeding, but when they returned in the morning to release him they found him dead.

They called police, claiming he broke into their flat and that they were defending themselves when they beat him. But H told police what happened. She was not charged but her brothers were sentenced to death for premeditated murder.
