DUBAI // A builder who killed a man by crushing his skull with a concrete slab was today sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The Dubai Criminal Court convicted the Bangladeshi builder AK, 34, of premeditated murder and ordered that he should be deported following the completion of his prison term.
The builder killed his compatriot AG at a villa construction site in October 2011 when he attacked him as he slept. The killing was motivated by a Dh11,000 debt that the deceased man refused to pay.
The body was discovered by an Emirati man who then alerted the authorities.
Police arrested the builder in an Abu Dhabi labour camp at Madinat Mohammed Bin Zayed, 28 kilometres south-east of the capital.
A combined team of Abu Dhabi and Dubai Police officers raided the camp and apprehended the suspect.
