The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance was told that on June 15, 2010, EA was driving back to Oman after a visit to the UAE.

As the vehicle moved along Hatta Road near the border guards camp, both he and his friend KG were under the influence of morphine, oxazepam, timazepam and other drugs, prosecutors say.

EA was driving on the two-lane road at 130kph, which was higher than the designated limit for the road, according to the report of a technical committee that analysed the accident.

Records said he lost control of his Toyota Corolla and swerved across the road, hitting a concrete barrier. The car then rebounded to the right side of the road.

The technical committee said the car then left the road for at least 30 metres, overturned and hit a tree about 119 metres from the original impact.

KG suffered multiple injuries to his head, chest, and other parts of his body. He also suffered bleeding in his brain, which killed him almost immediately.

The date of the next hearing is yet to be determined
