Ex-wife appeals jail term for dud Dh8m cheque she wrote husband

ABU DHABI // A woman who was jailed after writing her husband a dud cheque for Dh8 million before their marriage ended told an appeals court today she was the victim of a scam.

The Syrian was sentenced to three years in prison by the First Instance court after her ex-husband filed a complaint about the cheque, which was written during their 28-day marriage.

She told the appeals court she had signed the cheque but left the amount blank, and that she was the victim of a scam.

The court adjourned the case until April 18 when her ex-husband will be asked to testify.
