ABU DHABI // The former chief executive of Al Foah dates company and three of his employees have received prison sentences of up to 10 years for embezzling more than Dh1.5 million worth of cash and animal feed.
The Criminal Court sentenced the former chief executive KM, from Germany, in absentia to 10 years in prison and ordered him to pay a fine of Dh1,129,746. GM, from Egypt, was sentenced in absentia to five years and fined Dh671,746. TM, also from Egypt, received five years in prison and was fined Dh458,000 and the company's head of procurement MM, another Egyptian, was sentenced to two years and fined Dh599,428.
However, the court did not make an additional order for them to return the embezzled money.
Financial irregularities at the company were discovered during an audit by the Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority, acting on a tip off.
The audit showed the chief executive had given unauthorised cash rewards worth a total of Dh1,129,746 to GM and TM, while the head of procurement had embezzled animal feed worth Dh599,428.
All will be deported after serving their prison terms.
