Licences of 212 drivers revoked over serious violations

DUBAI // Dubai courts revoked the licences of 212 law-breaking drivers in the last four months, officials said today.

Salah Bu Faroosha, Head of Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution, said those whose licences were revoked were convicted in cases of accidental death, driving under the influence of alcohol and damaging property. Nineteen drivers were also prohibited from applying for new licences.

Mr Bu Faroosha said the licences are revoked for three to 12 months. According to the federal traffic law and its amendments issued in 2007, people convicted of serious traffic crimes must lose their licences.

Mr Bu Faroosha called on all road users to abide by traffic regulations. He stressed that prosecutors would relentlessly seek the harshest sentences against drivers who break rules.
