Man jailed for rape facing second sex offence charge

A man jailed for raping a woman at his Dubai home is facing a second sexual assault charge.

The Nigerian offender, 31, was handed a one-year prison sentence by Dubai Criminal Court in May after repeatedly raping his victim, physically assaulting her and forcing her to eat dog food during a horrifying ordeal.

The court heard how the jewellery designer struck up a friendship with the Serbian woman, 53, on social networking site, Badoo, before agreeing to meet her at a coffee shop on January 4.

When they met up, the man brandished a knife and forced her into his apartment, where he carried out the brutal attack.

He is now accused of raping a second woman - using a similar approach - just days earlier.

Prosecutors said the man attacked a Ukrainian woman on December 29 after meeting her on the same website.

“After chatting on the Badoo website, we agreed to meet. He arrived in a taxi to a cafe near the Sheraton hotel in the Marina area,” said the 33-year-old woman.

The pair took a taxi ride to a building in Al Barsha, Dubai, where the defendant asked her to accompany him to his apartment.

“I refused but he immediately pointed a syringe at me threatening to inject me with it. I screamed but there was no one around to help, so I went with him,” she said.

“He forced me into the bedroom, stripped me naked then raped me before lying down beside me on the bed, not allowing me to leave.”

She said he raped her four more times before allowing her to leave.

She called police and was asked to undergo a medical examination, in which DNA evidence was found to link the accused to the crime.

“After studying the cases files and reviewing evidence, we believe the accused committed both rape incidents. The details and circumstances of the two crimes are very similar and the women do not have any relation nor are they acquainted,” prosecutors told the court.

The man denied charges of rape and kidnap at court.

His legal team asked for him to be referred for a mental health assessment after claiming he suffers from a psychiatric disorder.

The case was adjourned until November 3.
