DUBAI // A policeman has been acquitted of having illicit sex with a 16-year-old and getting her pregnant.
The case was referred to police after the Emirati student, AA, admitted herself to Dubai hospital complaining of lower abdomen pain and was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy.
During police and prosecution investigations, AA said that she had sex with MH, a 26-year-old police officer, at an apartment in Al Qusais.
MH was referred to the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours while AA was referred to the Court of Juveniles.
AA stated that she met the policeman in a shopping mall in 2011 and they started talking on the phone.
"He picked me up in his Land Cruiser and took me to a flat in Al Qusais," she said, adding that they started kissing then had sex.
"Initially I refused to have sex but when he promised he won't harm me, I agreed," she told prosecutors.
A few weeks after their meeting, AA said she started feeling pregnancy symptoms. When she felt severe pain in her abdomen, AA visited the Dubai hospital where she was treated for a miscarriage of an ectopic pregnancy.
She insisted during investigations that MH was the father.
MH denied the charge during investigations and also when he appeared in court. "I haven't slept with her, when we met she waited in my car while I grabbed some stuff from the apartment then we headed to a coffee shop," he said in records.
"I don't know why she is trying to frame me. I asked her how she got hold of my number and she said through one of my friends.
"She would call me several times but I rarely answered," said the police officer.
