A woman was found not guilty of luring an engineer for masseuse services then tying him up, threatening him with a hot iron before stealing his credit card to withdraw cash and buy gold. The Nigerian woman 35, denied charges of theft, confinement and issuing death threats when she appeared before the Dubai Criminal Court earlier this month.
Prosecutors said she posed as a professional masseuse to an Egyptian engineer on WhatsApp on August 21 and sent him location details where she could offer him a session. But when he arrived at the apartment she along with four other men allegedly tied him up, stripped him naked, assaulted and threatened the 34-year-old engineer. The other men remain unidentified.
The victim told police he was locked up in the apartment for 14 hours while his ATM card was used to withdraw Dh15,000 and his credit card used to buy Dh163,000 worth of gold.
A police officer said a few days later after the report was filed, the woman was arrested but the men have not yet been caught.
"She denied the incident and said that she arrived to the country five days ago but the victim identified her three times and then we found the WhatsApp account on her phone. We also found that she had been sharing the apartment's location with a number of people," police lieutenant said.
The court found her not guilty of all charges. The reasons for the acquittal were not made available.
