A woman who bit a policeman's hand after he asked her for her Emirates ID will spend six months in jail.
The Ugandan woman, 24, attacked the 22-year-old officer on October 24 while he was on patrol in the Fareej Nasser neighbourhood of Naif in Deira.
He said a team of four officers were told to carry out strict security checks in the area.
"We suspected in the woman, who was walking down the street, and approached her. We showed her our IDs and then asked for hers, but she refused to show us any documents and ran away," the policeman said.
After they caught her, the woman resisted arrest and bit the officer's wrist.
"I was badly injured from her bite and was referred to Al Baraha Hospital for treatment," he said.
At Dubai Criminal Court last month, the woman - who had been living in the country illegally - admitted to assaulting the officer and resisting arrest but denied knowing that they were police.
"It's not true your honour, they didn't show me police ID cards, so I bit him because I thought I was being harassed by them," she said.
She will be deported after serving her term.
