Almost 200 of Dubai’s worst drivers racked up more than Dh14 million in fines last year. Brig Jamal Al Jallaf, director of the general department of criminal investigations at Dubai Police, said the 191 vehicles responsible for the millions in fines were impounded, along with 1,126 other cars last year. Of the seized cars, 76 were confiscated for reckless driving and 38 for causing excessive noise.<br/> Brig Al Jallaf said 11,682 fines were issued to motorists for failing to wear their seat belts, sudden swerving, drifting lanes and for changing the colour of their vehicles without a permit. Police said there were 39 hit and run accidents last year that killed eight people and seriously hurt five.<br/> "Hit and run cases are the most challenging especially because of a lack of relationship between the offender and the victim," said Brig Al Jallaf.<br/> Police are also now cracking down on cases of harassment. Nineteen people were arrested for harassing others in public places last year. Eleven of them were in Jumeirah, five in Al Mamzar, two in Al Khawaneej and one near the World Trade Centre.
