SHARJAH // Ninety per cent of pupils didn’t show up for classes on the days leading up to the National Day holiday on December 2 despite warnings from the Educational Zone.
Directives were issued to public and private schools by the Educational Zone instructing them to remain open and deliver normal scheduled classes even if the turnout of pupils is low.
Furthermore the zone sent parents text messages informing them to bring their children to school.
“This is a recurring theme, every time there is a religious or public holiday, the pupils don’t show up,” said Qambar Almazem, principle of Al Trem secondary school in Sharjah.
“There should be strict disciplinary laws to curb this.”
To encourage pupils to come to classes, various public and private schools organised shows and events on Sunday to celebrate National Day.
