Tonight sees the formal opening of Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island as the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, joins Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander of the UAE Armed Forces in a ceremony at the museum. President Macron, making his first visit to the UAE, flew into Abu Dhabi’s Al Bateen Airport on Wednesday afternoon, with Louvre Abu Dhabi the first stop on a two-day itinerary that ends in Dubai. The opening ceremony celebrates the completion of the museum ten years after the signing of an agreement between the UAE and France that created a 30-year agreement with the prestigious French institution. Among the guests is expected to be Jean Nouvel, the architect of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Mohammed Al Mubarak, chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism. The ceremony is to be followed by a state banquet in President Macron’s honour. Louvre Abu Dhabi will open to the public on Saturday November 11 at 10am. While advance tickets for the first day are sold out, around 1,000 tickets will be for sale on the day, first come, first served. _______________ Louvre Abu Dhabi Walking through the museum: the long-awaited first look inside Landmark museum is ready to open after ten-year journey Opening times, tickets and more: Everything you need to know about Louvre Abu Dhabi Louvre Abu Dhabi opens membership programme Special report: The museum of then, now and the future
