Fire guts warehouses in Sharjah industrial area

SHARJAH // A big fire gutted four warehouses in Industrial Area 13 on Tuesday.

The blaze started at around 3pm and took firefighters from Sharjah, Ajman and Dubai about two hours to control the blaze, said Brig Abdullah Al Suwaidi, the director general of Sharjah Civil Defence.

No injuries or fatalities were reported.

“The blaze is currently completely controlled and firefighters are still cordoning off the area as the cooling process starts,” he said.

The fire is thought to have started in a furniture warehouse and spread to other warehouses of scrap and garments.

Billowed smoke covered the skies of most of the emirate’s roads and traffic slowed as most roads were being cordoned off to allow firefighters easy access to the blaze.
