RAS AL KHAIMAH // The Environment Protection Authority has told quarries in the emirate to improve their sites in accordance with a ministerial decision issued in August last year.
Dr Saif Mohammed Al Ghays, director general of the authority, said the decision aims to reduce emissions from quarries.
They have been told to increase green areas and forestation around quarries and sprinkle water on stone-milling sites.
They must also reduce the number of vehicles used on-site by fitting conveyor belts.
He stressed that they required all quarries to install air monitoring stations that will be linked to a control station at the authority.
Two quarries were closed down for breaching environmental regulations in 2014.
