ABU DHABI // Almost half of all homes in Sharjah have been supplied with recycling bins to separate their waste after Bee'ah, the Sharjah environment company, distributed bins to 2,240 residential villas and low-rise buildings as well as 4,500 offices.
The company aims to divert 100 per cent of waste in Sharjah away from landfills by 2015, according to Khaled Al Huraimel, director general of Bee'ah.
The local recycling rate rose from 9,909 tonnes in 2011 to more than 15,000 by then end of 2012.
